Klaus Kinski's performance as the Count is truly unsettling and at the same time heartbreaking. Although a reprehensible character, Kinski manages to bring a sense of pathos to the Count's character. The Count at many times throughout the film describes the loneliness of being a vampire and how being immortal is a curse.
